Australian shares returned 0.60% in June to finish the quarter 4.14% higher, while US markets staged a powerful rebound with the S&P 500 up almost 15% and the NASDAQ surging around 21% for the quarter, their strongest since 2020, helped by oil falling back from its USD 120 peak after the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding. The RBA held the cash rate at 4.35% but pushed back on the idea that the hiking cycle is finished, warning that inflation remains too high even as headline inflation eased to 4.0% and unemployment drifted up to 4.4%, leaving policy bias tilted to the tighter side.
